What is the Xehia Trading Ltd. Scam Network?
Fellow scamfighters Eugene and Suzie got in touch with me about another scam network that they have found. The trail of the Xehia Trading Ltd. scam network starts from the About Us page. All the websites in this network contain the following text:
[Website name] did not exist until 2015, we have been playing the role as a manufacturer as well as a supplier ever since. Our factories in Vietnam and Philippines have been making clothes for many famous brands.
There are at least 296 websites that all contain this same snippet. The full list is given at the end of the article. You can see that the websites are claiming to have existed since 2015.
Domain name lookups of these websites show that almost all of them have been created in 2020. Therefore, it is clear that the claim about these stores having existed since 2015 is a barefaced lie. We can also see that the domain names have been registered in China.
The Contact Us pages of these websites only contain an email ID. The desktop versions of the websites have an ‘easter egg’ that is not visible on smaller screens – a company name, address and phone number. What is odd is that these details are formatted as an image, meaning they cannot be picked up by search engines. Seems like a deliberate attempt to hide the origin of the website.
The phone number and email ID seem to be fake. The address only leads to a street and there is no way to find out if a shop or office of Xehia Trading Ltd. is actually located there. The phone number does not seem to be active as per information on TrueCaller.
Almost all the websites use the same Shopify template and sell the same products. This begs the question – why would a company need to create around 300 websites to sell the same products? Fishy, isn’t it?
These websites are all poorly-reviewed and they show the hallmarks of Chinese bait-and-switch scam networks like Econ Technology Ltd., Labubu Limited, Middle Bridge Ltd. and numerous others. Complaints include false advertising, inferior products, late or no delivery, terrible customer service, unfair return policy and refusal to provide refunds.
Xehia Trading Ltd. is a company that is registered in the UK. It is registered under the name of Xiaolu Xi, a Chinese national. This ties into the earlier finding that the domain names have been registered in China. Further, the company is classified under ‘other service activities’ and not as a wholesale/retail company.
The inference here is that the websites are created by a Chinese criminal enterprise trying to mislead consumers into believing that the websites are run by a legitimate organization based in the UK. Also, the company was incorporated only in April 2019, once again showing that these websites could not have been active since 2015.
To avoid getting scammed by the Xehia Trading Ltd., the first thing you need to keep in mind is to never fall for Facebook/Instagram ads from brands you have never heard of. Check out the list of websites below and you will see that they have gibberish names that barely even look like English.
Secondly, visit some of the websites and see the design. All of them look almost identical, so you will be able to easily recognize a scam website once you know their general look.
Thirdly, check the About Us page of the website to see if it contains the ‘did not exist till 2015’ line that is shown at the start of the post. This is a telltale sign that is easy to spot.
If still in doubt, use the Search feature on this website to see if the website has been caught as being part of the scam network. If it hasn’t and you still smell a scam, you can get in touch with me on Facebook or using the contact form for my opinion.
