Why is Thursdaybootsuksale Fake?
Thursdaybootsuksale is a website that claims to be selling footwear by the brand Thursday Boots at low prices. I was alerted by a reader that it is a copycat website falsely claiming to sell original footwear. Thanks to Scott for reporting this scam to me.
A domain name lookup of the website shows it was registered on 1st November 2021 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The registrant’s details such as name and contact details have not been provided. Therefore, it is a new website being operated anonymously from a high-risk country.
At first glance, Thursdaybootsuksale’s website bears a passing resemblance to the original website of Thursday Boots (thursdayboots.com). On closer inspection, there is a certain shabbiness to the site which suggests that it has been created cheaply by amateurs. Compare the first screenshot to the second one which is of the original website.
‘Too good to be true’ prices are often the most obvious sign of a scam and Thursdaybootsuksale is full of them. The website pretends to be selling footwear at less than half the original cost.
The quality of Thursdaybootsuksale’s website is quite poor. Important pages such as About Us and even the Terms & Conditions are missing. It is quite clear that the website is not run by the genuine Thursday Boots.
The cart system on the website is obviously fake and rigged as the total is always reduced to £75, which is roughly $99. This modus operandi is similar to websites by Chinese scam networks that I have written about previously, which you can read about here: $99 Cart Scam Network.
What’s even more concerning is that payments are not processed on Thursdaybootsuksale’s’s website. Thursdaybootsuksale redirects to a different website for every transaction. I was redirected to one called ‘ooqvpr.ml‘ for processing the payment and the PayPal account has the random name ‘KiakcTrade@hotmail.com’.
When I cancelled the PayPal transaction, I was taken back to a totally different website called shopheem.com! Shopheem’s logo just says ‘Outlet Catalog’, thereby appearing to be a generic nameless scam site. At this point, it became obvious that Thursdaybootsuksale is likely to be part of a scam network of fake online stores run by criminals.
The About Us page of Shopheem contains the following text:
Hello and welcome to Outlet Catalog, the place to find and shop the best Women’s Fashion Clothing Online for every taste, occasion and Size.
Because we are women and customers in the first place like you, we at Outlet Catalog believe in high quality and exceptional customer service. But most importantly, we believe online shopping is a right, not a luxury, especially in our busy life.
We’ve come a long way, so we know exactly How to check the quality of our goods, working only with reliable suppliers so that you only receive the best quality yet budget friendly product, and make your online shopping experience amazing, trust worthy and time saver.
We strive to deliver the best products at the most affordable prices, and ship them to you regardless of where you are located in.
I found that there are at least 10 other websites using the same text. Qti.Ai’s Scami revealed that there are at least 349 additional sites using this text too, all of which are likely to be scams. The full list of sites is given at the end of the article.
Even though there are social media links given on Thursdaybootsuksale’s website, the links are fake as they lead nowhere. Thursdaybootsuksale does not seem to have a social media presence, but it is likely that the store is being promoted using advertisements from proxy pages on Facebook and Instagram. There is are no company or contact details anywhere on the website. The only way to contact Thursdaybootsuksale is via a contact form on the website that probably doesn’t even work.
I could not find any customer reviews for Thursdaybootsuksale, which is not surprising considering that it was created in November 2021. If you want to share your review of this site, you can do so in the comments below or on my social media pages.
Conclusion
It is incredibly likely that Thursdaybootsuksale and the 361 similar sites are all likely to be scams operated from China.
Thursdaybootsuksale is a new site created anonymously from Malaysia in November 2021. The product listings have been copied from the real Thursday Boots’ website to give the false impression that Thursdaybootsuksale is run by the same company.
The website’s checkout process is completely fake as the total is always reduced to £75 ($99) no matter how many items you add to the cart. PayPal payments are processed by redirecting customers to a different dubious site called ”ooqvpr[.]ml’. The PayPal account being used to collect payments has the random name ‘KiakcTrade@hotmail.com’, which means it might be a personal account and not of a business.
Cancelling the PayPal transaction led me back to a site called Shopheem. Shopheem is likely to be operated by a Chinese scam network as the site’s text content can also be found on at least 361 other websites, none of which look legitimate. Many of them are exact clones of Shopheem.
Thursdaybootsuksale’s website contains absolutely no company details or contact information. Thursdaybootsuksale does not have any social media pages and no customer reviews could be found either. It is advisable to avoid ordering from Thursdaybootsuksale or any of the 362 similar sites as it is almost guaranteed that customers will get scammed.
If you think that you have been scammed by any of these sites, you can contact PayPal or your bank for a full refund. Don’t accept a partial refund citing that the product is not what you ordered and refuse to ship the items back, stating that you didn’t know it would be shipped from China.
