Why is Shige.Store Fake?

YouTube video

Shige.Store is an online electronics shop which claims to sell products at huge discounts of 80% to 95%. At first glance, it seems that they sell products by reputed brands such as Samsung. In the case of the RC Fighter Jet, they have even used the image of an actual Tomcat fighter jet. However, a closer look reveals that there are no brand names mentioned and even the pre-discount prices are lower than those of original products. Therefore, it immediately seems as though the website is selling low-quality counterfeits while showing images of original branded products.

A domain name lookup of the website shows that it was registered on 18th April 2020 in Guang Dong, China. The organization name given is Chen Yun Chuan.

shige.store scam whois

The content of the website is not original. As mentioned above, the images are copied from original brands. However, the most surprising part is that the text used on the website is also being used by at least 289 other online stores. These include websites, Amazon stores, Facebook pages and even an app on the Google Play Store.

The email address provided (service@timvirginia.shop) is also used on at least 41 other websites. The email ID did not seem to work when checked using MailTester.

  • service@timvirginia.shop scam network

The complete list of websites using the same content and email address is provided at the end of the article. The content and email address being the same across a large number of websites indicates that there is a large network of such e-commerce shops which may be running the same scam.

When I tested the checkout process on Shige.Store using PayPal, it showed the company name as ‘XULEI BUSINESS LIMITED’, which is different from the organization name ‘Chen Yun Chuan’ provided for the domain registration.

There are social media links on Shige.Store which are fake as they lead to the home pages of the websites. The website is so low-quality that they have not even bothered to replace the original text from the template in the footer.

There are a few user reviews for Shige.Store available on ReportScam and TrustPilot. They all mention the same kind of scam wherein they have been sent products that are completely different from what they had ordered. These items are not counterfeits, as was expected, instead, they are random items like placemats. The reviews mention that the customers were able to contact customer support, so the email address service@timvirginia.shop might be a working one. However, it is not clear whether they used the same email address to contact the company. In any case, customer service seems to be uncooperative.

One of the reviews mentions the websites sweetmilk.shop and wintertide.store which are running Youtube ads selling the same products. Sweetmilk.shop was found on my list of websites using the same email IDs, which suggests that there is indeed a network of scam websites.

It seems quite obvious that Shige.Store and the 300+ websites using the same content and email address are scams. The website is extremely low-quality with images and content copied from other websites. Deceptive images of branded products are being used to portray unbranded products.

The social media links don’t work and the email address is likely to be fake. The company name is also unclear as there are different names used in the domain registration and PayPal account.

User reviews have indicated that the company sends random products and refuses refunds. Shige.Store seems to be a part of the ‘Uniqueness’ network which might be pulling the same scam on customers. It is advisable to avoid shopping on any of these 300+ e-commerce stores as they seem to be fake.

I am sure the network is even larger as it is almost impossible for Google to pick up all the websites. There is a simple test you can do yourself before shopping on such unknown websites. Visit the About Us page and copy a small part of the text which doesn’t contain the website name. Go to Google and paste the text within double quotes (“ ”). This search will show you whether the same text is also present on other websites.

How to Get Your Money Back from a Scam

Remember: If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.

If you have been the victim of an ecommerce scam, you can take the following steps:

  1. Lodge a complaint at the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal
  2. File a complaint with the payment portal and ask whether the payment can be reversed.
  3. File a complaint with the Consumer Complaints Forum
  4. Leave a negative review on review portals such as Scamadviser, TrustPilot, OnlineThreatAlerts and SiteJabber
  5. Report the website to Google using the Suspicious Site Reporter extension for Chrome
  6. Give a low rating to the website on Web of Trust. You can also install their extension for the same.
