Is Webeves Fake or Real?
Fake
Why is Webeves Fake?
Webeves is a website which claims to sell Weber Grills at highly discounted rates. Users have reported that they came across this website while looking to buy BBQ grills on Google. Webeves tries to disguise itself as the official website of Weber as it uses the actual logo, but there is no relation between Weber Grills and Webeves. If you come across ads for Webeves, you should report them using the Google Ads Redressal Form.
A domain name lookup of the website shows that Webeves was registered on 25th May 2020 in Gansu, China. The name of the registrant has not been provided.
The content of Webeves has been lifted directly from the official website of Weber Grills. Webeves has tried to copy every aspect of Weber Grills’ website, including the colours, text, images and even the icon in the title bar. It seems to be a rushed job as the FAQs section randomly mentions contact lenses.
The prices on Webeves are much lower than the brand’s official website. The discounts being offered are incredible and go up to 95% ($1,900 off). The low prices are even more suspicious when you consider that the products are unavailable on the website of Weber Grills.
There are social media links given on Webeves but they are dummy icons which lead nowhere. The only contact information provided is the email ID support@bhlshop.com. The same email ID can be found on the website bhlshop.com, which has been identified as a scam by OnlineThreatAlerts.
There are some user reviews for Webeves available on OnlineThreatAlerts where customers have alleged that they received a fake tracking number after making the payment. In other cases, the customers received no confirmation after placing the order. One user claims that the transaction was blocked by his credit card company, which may be due to earlier complaints against the account.
It seems clear that Webeves is a scam. It is an obvious copycat website which is trying to pass itself off as the official website of Weber Grills. Webeves was known to be running Google ads to trick people into thinking they are shopping on the website of the actual brand. The discounts being offered are hard to believe as they are giving 95% off at a time when the original website of Weber Grills shows products as out of stock.
The social media links on Webeves are dummies and the email address provided is associated with another website which has been identified as a scam. The FAQs section mentions contact lenses which is a big red flag that the website is fake. Entering your card details on this site might also compromise the details and allow scammers to carry out unauthorised transactions. It is advisable to avoid shopping on Webeves as there is an extremely high chance of getting scammed.
*Update*
After publishing the link to this article on Twitter, I received a confirmation from the official Twitter profile @WeberGrills that Webeves is not an authorized Weber retailer.
