Why is Exoplshop Fake?

YouTube video

Exoplshop is a website that calls itself ‘Wayfairdiscount’ and claims to be selling outdoor equipment such as swing sets, pergolas and more. The site seems to be a scam from the first impression as it is clearly impersonating the Wayfair brand despite having absolutely no relation to it.

I found that Exoplshop’s entire content has been copied from the sites of legitimate brands such as Wayfair and AllModern. Further, there are at least 15 sites using the same content, all of which may be scams.

Exoplshop’s website contains red flag after red flag. Another obvious sign of it being a scam is a ’72 hour Clearance’ sale that never actually ends. It only serves to create a false sense of urgency.

If it wasn’t already obvious that Exoplshop is a scam, it becomes crystal clear once you take a look at the prices. All the product listings have been copied from the site of a genuine brand called Backyard Discovery. While Backyard Discovery’s products cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars, not even a single item on Exoplshop’s website exceeds the price of $100. ‘Too good to be true’ prices are often the most obvious sign of a scam.

A domain name lookup of the website shows that it was registered on 31st May 2022 in Jiangxi, China. The registrant’s details such as name and contact information have not been provided. Therefore, it is a new website being operated anonymously from a high-risk country.

While testing the checkout process, I found that the PayPal account associated with the website is called ‘Sam Triffitt’. This seems to be a personal PayPal account that is meant to be used for making payments to an individual and not a business.

Exoplshop has social media icons on its website but they are fake as they lead nowhere. I couldn’t find any social media pages on my own.

There is no company information given anywhere on the website. The Contact Us page has missing information. Therefore, there is no way to contact Exoplshop after making a purchase.

Conclusion

It is apparent that Exoplshop and the 15 similar sites are likely to be scams operated from China.

Exoplshop is a new website created anonymously from China in May 2022. The prices are too good to be true and it has a ’72 hour’ sale that never ends. The entire website’s content has been copied from real brands such as Wayfair, AllModern and Backyard Discovery. The same text can be found on at least 15 other websites, all of which may be scams.

The website contains no company information and contact details are missing too. The PayPal account associated with the website seems to belong to an individual and not a business. No customer reviews could be found online.

It is advisable to avoid shopping on Exoplshop or any of the 15 related websites as there are high chances that you may lose your money.

If you think that you have been scammed by any of these sites, you can contact PayPal or your bank for a full refund. Don’t accept a partial refund citing that the product is not what you ordered and refuse to ship the items back to China as the merchant claims to be located in the USA.
