Why is Bonepath Fake?

Bonepath is a website that claims to be selling furniture and bed covers at low prices. The images on the website have been stolen from genuine brands such as VCNY Home. The prices seem to be random too as the same items are being sold online for a fraction of the cost.

There is no doubt that Bonepath is a scam as one of their victims sent me the below images of what they ordered compared to what they received. Bonepath was advertising a bedside table for $45 on Facebook but the victim received a random item – a 60W data cable set that costs around $10 on AliExpress. The package arrived from China and even the details of the courier company given on the package are fake.

The Contact Us page of the website shows that it is run by Meledo Company Ltd. registered in the UK, but seems to be a shell company created to launder the proceeds of scams to China. This company is associated with thousands of scammy websites and I have written about it previously in my articles about Hercupp, Kowalewska Store and more. Fadel-Beatty is a related company registered in Ireland.

The victim also reported that the email ID ‘support@bonepath.com‘ is fake as it is unable to receive emails.

A domain name lookup of the website shows that bonepath.com was registered on 26th July 2022. The registrant’s name, location and contact details have been hidden using a privacy guard. However, it is clear from the victim’s report that the site is operated by Chinese scammers. Therefore, it is a new website being run anonymously from a high-risk country.

Upon analyzing the website’s content, I discovered that the text on the About Us page has been plagiarized from a legitimate brand called Circa Lighting. Further, I found that bothpath.com’s content is used on at least 203 other websites, all of which are likely to be scams. Qti.Ai’s Scami uncovered 417 additional sites using this text too, adding up to a total of 620 websites related to Bonepath which are likely to be scams.

While testing the checkout process, I found that Bonepath has limited the order amount per purchase to $100. A shipping charge of $999,999 is automatically applied when the cart value is more than $100. A new and unknown website actively discouraging customers from buying more is incredibly strange. It is likely to be a tactic to avoid fraud detection by credit card companies.

Even though Bonepath claims to accept PayPal, this is not true as only credit and debit cards are accepted during checkout. This shows that the website is not run by professionals.

Despite multiple indications that Bonepath is a Chinese operation, the T&C page states that the site operates as per the laws of UK. Also, it is falsely and contradictorily mentioned that Bonepath ships items from the USA.

Even though there are no social media pages listed on Bonepath’s website, I found that at least three Facebook pages for it exist, two of which which are being used for advertising on Facebook and Instagram. The page information shows that they are old pages that changed their name at the same time that Bonepath was set up. Therefore, the pages are likely to be stolen or purchased from the original owners. Shockingly, these pages are being allowed to run ads.

Customers have posted reviews for Bonepath on ScamAdviser and Trustpilot. The reviews are exclusively negative as they had the same experience as the victim who reported the scam to me. Complaints include false advertising, non-delivery and non-existent customer service. It is apparent that Bonepath and the 619 similar sites all appear to be scams operated by Chinese cybercrime networks, under the guise of Meledo Company Ltd. registered in the UK.

Bonepath is a new site created anonymously in July 2022. The website owners have obscured the site’s Chinese origin and are claiming that it is managed by a business called Meledo Company Ltd. registered in the UK. However, this company is registered under the name of a Chinese national.

All the content on the website is copied. The product listings have been stolen from genuine brands such as VCNY Home and the prices on the website are randomly inflated. With help from Qti.ai‘s Scami, I found that there are 619 other websites using the same content as Bonepath and are likely to be operated by the same fraudsters.

Bonepath has three separate Facebook pages, two of which seem to be hacked pages. Shockingly, two of these are being used for advertising on Facebook and Instagram. Only a fake email ID is provided for support and customer reviews are all negative.

It is advisable to avoid shopping on Bonepath or any of the 619 similar websites as they do not seem to be genuine businesses.

If you think that you have been scammed by any of these sites, you can contact your bank for a full refund. Don’t accept a partial refund citing that the product is not what you ordered and refuse to ship the items back to China as the merchant claims to be located in the UK.
