A supporter of Fake Website Buster sent me a request to review Augur Capital Limited (augurcapital.com.au) with the following message:

I was defrauded by the company Tuotenda capital which belongs to the company Augur capital, domiciled in Australia, with the same president. all information is on my site: scamscrypto.com. Augur capital = crooks?

Scamscrypto.com contains in-depth information about how the person fell for a ‘pig butchering scam‘ by Chinese scammers. Therefore, it hints that augurcapital.com.au may also be a fake website created to trap victims in romance investment scams.

A domain name lookup of the website did not provide a creation date, only that the domain information was updated on 25th January 2023. However, Snapshots from the Wayback Machine suggest that the site was active since at least May 2022. The domain has been registered under the name of Andrew Martin and Augur Primacy Pty. Ltd. This is a huge red flag as the website claims it is operated by ‘Augur Capital Pty Ltd‘ which is a completely different and unrelated company.

Further, there is no proof that augurcapital.com.au belongs to Augur Capital Pty. Ltd. as it was registered in 2014 and seems to have shut down. Therefore, it seems that augurcapital.com.au is a new website created to impersonate an Australian investment firm.

Even though it is clear that the website did not exist before 2022, the site’s footer contains a false claim that it is active since 2018.

The About Us page states that they operate through a ‘related company’ named RS Finance (Aust) Pty Limited.

When I looked this company up, I found that it has been flagged as a Pyramid Scheme and has been called a scam by investors. One of the reviewers has stated that they were trapped into investing with RS Finance by someone using a fake dating profile. This is a clear indication of RS Finance – and Augur Capital Limited by proxy – being used for pig butchering scams.

The Team page of the website contains three names including one Andrew Martin, which is the same name used for domain registration. I found that he is a real person but I could not find any association between Andrew Martin and Augur Capital Ltd.

When I looked at Andrew’s LinkedIn profile, it contained the link augurprimacy.com.au which is the official website of Augur Primacy Limited.

The same image on the home page can be found on both websites, implying that augurcapital.com.au is copying augurprimacy.com.au.

Augur Capital does not have any social media pages and the link provided on the website are dummies that lead nowhere. The Contact page provides more reason to believe that Augur Capital is impersonating Augur Primacy as they have even copied the contact details such as address and phone number.

Conclusion

It seems apparent that Augur Capital Limited is likely to be a scam website impersonating a real Australian company named Augur Primacy Limited. There are several signs suggesting it is not a genuine organization. The domain name is registered under the name of Augur Primacy Pty Ltd even though they don’t seem to have any relation to the website.

The site is relatively new and is being operated anonymously since mid-2022. The owners have lied on the website that it is active since 2018. The website is supposedly managed by Augur Capital Pty Ltd but this company seems to be unrelated too and apparently no longer in business.

The website owners claim to operate through RS Finance which has been flagged as a pyramid scheme and is alleged to play a part in ‘pig butchering scams’ from China.

The team member information given on the website is fake too. For example, they claim that Mr. Andrew Martin is the Managing Director of the company. I discovered that Andrew Martin is the founder of Augur Primacy and has no apparent relations to Augur Capital.

The contact information provided appears to be fake as too as the details are copied from Augur Primacy.

It is advisable to avoid investing with Augur Capital as there are no reasons to believe that it is a genuine investment firm.
