Why is ShoppingWink Fake?

Shoppingink.com is the website of ShoppingWink, which claims to be an online store selling an assortment of toys, tools and electronic equipment. Their star products seem to be electric scooters which are reportedly being advertised heavily by the website.

Overall, the website looks quite shoddy as the images used are low-resolution and seem to be lifted from other sources. The main banner image of the website is a thumbnail image used for the stock video of a shopping mall available on Getty.

The name of the business is also ambiguous. The URL is shoppingink.com while the logo says ShoppingWink. To add to the confusion, the Terms of Service page refers to the company as shoppingink and not ShoppingWink.

At first, it did not seem that there were any contact details provided. The contact us page does not mention any phone number, email ID or address and the only way to get in touch with the company is through a form. However, the Refund Policy page mentions an email ID. Checking this ID on MailTester revealed that it is unable to receive any messages.

ShoppingWink’s catalogue consists of miscellaneous products such as an 8-in-1 wrench, makeup equipment, exercise equipment and electric scooters. It was brought to my attention through a reader and also while browsing reviews that ShoppingWink has been running paid promotions for the electric scooter products. The two scooter models which they have on offer look like knock-offs of genuine brands. The images are low-quality and look like photos of branded products with the logos edited out.

The most interesting part is the prices. The product Electric Rider 360 offered for $75.95 seems to be an unbranded version of the PowerRider 360 by the brand Razor, which costs $199.99. But what truly blew my mind was the Intelligent Electric Skateboard selling for $75.95. This electric scooter closely resembles the Stator Launch Edition Scooter which is yet unreleased and costs a whopping $3,995.

The other products on the website are either unavailable on any reputable sites like Amazon or are actually priced higher other online stores.

There are only a few reviews available on sites like TrustPilot and ScamAdviser and they warn that ShoppingInk is a scam. One reviewer has said that their attempt to make a payment on the website was immediately blocked. This could be because the account being used for transactions has been reported for fraud by previous customers. Another reviewer warns that the same website was operating earlier under the name TheShopple.com, which strengthens the theory that the payment account has been associated with fraudulent activities.

From all the information gathered, it seems highly likely that ShoppingWink/ShoppingInk is a scam. The website is poorly put together, there is no contact information provided, there is no social media presence and even the company name is not clear. The user reviews suggest that the website is a scam and the prices seem ridiculous.

Using images of branded products with logos removed seems to be a clear case of misrepresentation, while some of the products look overpriced. The signs indicate that ShoppingWink seems to be an attempt at phishing or fraud and it would be wise to avoid shopping on this website.
