Why Is ShopMyMobile Fake?

ShopMyMobile is a website that claims to be selling high-end smartphones at feature-phone prices. All the products sold on ShopMyMobile are of the ‘Nefon’ brand. However, it seems to me that Nefon is not a real brand at all; it is a fake brand like MaxoPhone.

There is no mention of the Nefon brand anywhere except on ShopMyMobile. The images used to depict Nefon products are actually those of phones from brands such as Oppo and Vivo, some of which cost more than ten times as much compared to ShopMyMobile.

A domain name lookup of the website shows that it was registered on 16th December 2020 in Delhi, India. The organization name has been given as Cart Domain. No contact details have been provided.

The text content on the website seems to be copied too. The text used in the ‘About Us’ section is also being used by at least 15 other websites, all of which may be scams.

In fact, one of these websites called MyTouchPhone seems to be another scam operated by the same fraudsters behind ShopMyMobile. There are several complaints about MyTouchPhone and the same name appears in the Terms & Conditions page of ShopMyMobile. MyTouchPhone is also selling phones by a fake brand called Maime.

The contact details provided on both websites also clearly show that they are operated by the same people. ShopMyMobile and MyTouchPhone provide exactly the same details. The phone number is marked as a scam in TrueCaller and the address is likely to be fake as it of a location in Uttar Pradesh and not Delhi. The email ID is a free Gmail ID and not an official company email address.

ShopMyMobile does not seem to have a social media presence. I did not find any real reviews either. The only reviews available are from scammers who have seeded fake customer care numbers.

It seems quite obvious that ShopMyMobile is a scam. The website is just over a month old and is claiming to sell phones by a fake brand called Nefon. The images used on the website are of phones by smartphone brands such as Oppo and Vivo.

The content used on the website is copied and can also be found at least 15 other websites, all of which may be scams.

One of these websites is MyTouchPhone, which seems to be run by the same scammers behind ShopMyMobile. This is because both websites are selling phones by fake brands, the name ‘MyTouchPhone’ appears on ShopMyMobile’s website and both provide the exact same contact details.

The contact details themselves are fake. The domain name has been registered in Delhi, however, the address given is of a location in Uttar Pradesh. The phone number is marked as a scam in TrueCaller. The email ID is a free Gmail ID and not an official company email address. It is advisable to avoid shopping on ShopMyMobile as it is extremely likely to be a scam.
