Why is Holibert Fake?

Holibert is a website that claims to be selling an assortment of mass-produced Chinese goods at low prices. The prices of the products appear to be artificially inflated as the same or similar items can be purchased for lower prices on AliExpress even after including the cost of shipping.

A domain name lookup of the website shows that it was registered on 21st July 2022. The registrant’s details such as name, location and contact information have been hidden using a privacy guard.

However, as the site seems to have been created using the Chinese Shoplazza platform and due to other reasons covered later in this article, there is reason to believe that Holibert may be a Chinese website. Therefore, it is a new website operated anonymously, possibly from a high-risk country.

Firstly, this is the same text found on websites in the Uniqueness Scam Network, a large network of scam sites run by organized cybercriminals from China which I have written about a number of times in the past. Additionally, I discovered at least 289 websites using the same content as Holibert. Qti.Ai’s Scami uncovered 920 additional sites using this text too, adding up to a total of 1,209 websites related to Holibert which are likely to be scams. The full list of sites is given at the end of the article.

The Terms & Conditions document of Holibert states that the website is operated from the UK and the below company information of Ansky Company Limited has been provided. It should be noted that the information has been formatted as an image on the website, presumably to hide it from detection by search engines as the same company information can be found on hundreds of sites.

There are signs suggesting that Ansky Company Limited may be a shell company created to launder money from the UK to China. I have come across it previously while researching other scams, such as the ‘Giantbeetech’ Scam Network and Loharia.com.

According to the information on the UK Companies House register, Ansky Company Limited was registered in 2018 as a company dealing in ‘wholesale clothing and footwear’. Notably, most of the products sold on Holibert’s website are not clothing or footwear and the website was created only in July 2022.

Ansky Company Limited has a Chinese Director and the company’s ownership has changed five times. All the owners are Chinese individuals or companies registered in Hong Kong. The company’s registered address does not match the one given on the website. Due to these reasons, it seems that Holibert is likely to be a Chinese operation masquerading as a business located in the UK.

While testing the checkout process, I found that the PayPal account being used for payments is named ‘GoChumbo’, which is not mentioned anywhere on the website. Therefore, Holibert is using a random PayPal account for transactions.

There are social media icons given on Holibert’s website, but they are dummies as they lead nowhere.

Curiously, I discovered that two separate Facebook pages have been created for Holibert. Both these pages have been created on the same day and one of them is being used for advertising on Facebook and Instagram.

The Contact Us page of the website contains only the email ID ‘service@holibert.com‘ apart from the contact details of Ansky Company Limited. Therefore, Holibert can only be contacted by email or Facebook after making a purchase.

I could not find any customer reviews for Holibert, which is not surprising as the site is just over a month old at the time of writing this. If you want to share your review of Holibert, you can do so in the comments below or on my social media pages.

Going by past reviews of websites run by Ansky Company Limited, it is likely that customers may be bait-and-switched with low-quality goods or may never receive the ordered items. Common complaints with these sites include false advertising, late or no delivery, poor customer service and refusal to provide refunds.

Conclusion

There is a high likelihood that Holibert and the 1,209 similar sites might all be scams operated by the Uniqueness Scam Network from China.

Holibert is a new site created anonymously in July 2022. I found that there are 1,209 websites that have the same content as Holibert and are likely to be operated by the same owners. The prices on the website are inflated compared to competitors like AliExpress.

While the website tries to give a false impression that Holibert is a UK-based operation, it actually seems to be a Chinese business operated under a likely shell company named Ansky Company Limited. The company has a Chinese Director and the ownership has changed five times between Chinese individuals and companies.

Even though no social media pages are linked on the website, I found that Holibert has two separate Facebook pages created on the same day and one of them is being used for running advertisements. Only an email ID has been provided for support and no customer reviews could be found online.

It is advisable to avoid shopping on Holibert or any of the 1,209 similar websites as the prices appear to be artificially inflated. Going by the track record of sites associated with Ansky Company Limited, customers are likely to receive low-quality goods or nothing at all.

If you think that you have been scammed by any of these sites, you can contact PayPal or your bank for a full refund. Don’t accept a partial refund citing that the product is not what you ordered and refuse to ship the items back to China as the merchant claims to be located in the UK.
