Why is Fundrecoveryintl Fake?
Fundrecoveryintl claims to be a ‘recovery agency’ capable of recovering funds sent by victims to investment scammers, including cryptocurrency coins. As I have written previously, cryptocurrency is nearly impossible to recover, which makes promises by new and unknown companies highly dubious.
A domain name lookup of the website shows that Expertfundsrecovery was registered on 11th October 2021. The registrant’s details such as name, location and contact information have been hidden using a paid service. Therefore, it is a new website that is being operated anonymously.
Even though it is clear that Fundrecoveryintl did not exist before October 2021, the footer of the website falsely mentions that it is active since 2020. This is a blatant lie.
The About Us page of Fundrecoveryintl contains the following text:
Fund Recovery International was founded by an extensive team of anti-fraud, banking and regulatory experts. By combining our years of experience and areas of expertise we have created a force to fight scams and fraud of every kind.
Our Vision is to be the world’s leading anti-fraud advisory and service provider. Our Mission is to provide a personalized client experience through a transparent and customer oriented model.
I found that this same content has been used on at least 7 other websites, all of which may be scams. The full list of sites is given at the end of the article.
The testimonials on the website make it even more obvious that Fundrecoveryintl is a scam as they are quite clearly fake. The same testimonials can be found on other sites and the scammers have also written fake reviews on Quora.
The website is run completely anonymously as there is not the name of a single team member mentioned anywhere. There is no company information either, probably because no such company actually exists.
The fact that Fundrecoveryintl is not run by genuine professionals is made even more obvious thanks to the random pasted on the home page. Logos like DMCA and Mastercard have been nonsensically used to create a false sense of legitimacy.
Fundrecoveryintl does not have a social media presence. There are no pages listed on the website and I could not find any either.
It is stated on Fundrecoveryintl’s website that they have a 4/5 Trustpilot rating based on 75 reviews. This is quite clearly fake as Fundrecoveryintl actually has no reviews on Trustpilot.
The contact information given on the website includes an address, email ID and two phone numbers. I found that the address provided is completely fake as it is the location of a pizza restaurant.
Even though the address is of a location in the UK, one of the phone numbers provided is inexplicably Australian. This is probably so because scammers purchase virtual numbers to pretend to be from countries that they aren’t located in. This means that Fundrecoveryintl is not actually based in the UK or Australia.
Conclusion
It seems quite evident that Fundrecoveryintl is a fake fund recovery agency trying to ‘double dip’ on scam victims. The site is being operated anonymously since October 2021 and has apparent relations to 7 other fund recovery websites, all of which are likely to be scams.
Fundrecoveryintl’s website is of poor quality and contains plagiarized content. The footer of the website falsely mentions that the site is active since 2020. Important documentation such as ToS and Privacy Policy are missing.
Even the client testimonials are fake as the same can be found on other sites. Fundrecoveryintl does not have a social media presence and the contact details provided are fake too. The UK address provided is of a pizza restaurant. Fundrecoveryintl’s website states that they have a 4/5 rating on Trustpilot when in reality their Trustpilot page has zero reviews.
It is advisable to avoid hiring the services of Fundrecoveryintl or the 7 similar websites, as there is no reason to believe that they aren’t scams operated by fraudsters.
How to Get Your Money Back from a Scam
Remember: If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.
If you have been a victim of an investment scam, you can take the following steps:
- File a complaint with the payment portal. However, investment scammers mostly use methods such as Bitcoin, Western Union, MoneyGram and other untraceable methods which make refunds impossible.
- File a formal police complaint with the Cybercrime department.
- Leave a negative review on review portals such as Scamadviser and TrustPilot
- Report the website to Google using the Suspicious Site Reporter extension for Chrome
- Give a low rating to the website on Web of Trust. You can also install their extension for the same.
- If the company has a listing on Google My Business or Google Maps, file a complaint using the Business Redressal Complaint Form. Also, leave a negative review explaining what kind of experience you had.
