Why Is CryptosForensics Fake?

CryptosForensics is a website that claims to help victims of scams recover their funds. The surprising part is that they claim to have expertise in recovering cryptocurrency, something that is practically impossible.

The website has been created using the website-building service Wix and is of extremely low quality. It uses low-resolution images and does not even scale properly for smaller screens. This shows that CryptosForensics is a low-budget operation and the site has been created by amateurs.

A domain name lookup of the website shows that it was registered on 13th January 2021. The registrant’s details such as name, location and contact details have been hidden using a paid service.

whois

Even though the website is barely over a month old, the footer claims that CryptosForensics has been active since 2012. This is clearly a lie.

CryptosForensics scam fake website age

CryptosForensics does not seem to have a social media presence. The contact details given on the website include an email ID, phone number and two addresses. The email ID is a free Gmail ID and not an official company ID. The phone number is an internet calling line.

The addresses are incomplete and likely to be fake. The map on the website does not even show any office location. Therefore, it is quite possible that CryptosForensics is not an American company at all.

No reviews for CryptosForensics could be found online, which is not surprising as it is a new website. The only mention of the company outside it’s own website is by a fake account on Quora. It is a new account with just 2 answers, both of which are the same.

Therefore, it is apparently a fake account created by CryptosForensics to promote themselves. We have seen this tactic used earlier by Recovery Scams such as Alphawide Tech, Crypto Trail Tech and many more.

It seems extremely likely that CryptosForensics is a scam. The website has been created in January 2021 and is being operated anonymously. The website footer falsely claims that the company has been active since 2012, which is impossible.

The contact details include an unofficial email ID created using Gmail and a virtual phone number. The addresses also look incomplete and are most probably fake. Therefore, it does not seem that CryptosForensics is an American company at all.

CryptosForensics has no social media pages and no reviews could be found. The only mention of them apart from their own website is by a fake account on Quora. This account has just two answers, both of which are the same and talk about CryptosForensics.

It is advisable to avoid hiring the services of CryptosForensics, as there are high odds of it being a fake website created by investment scammers to take advantage of their victims again.

If you have been a victim of an investment scam, you can take the following steps:

  1. File a complaint with the payment portal. However, investment scammers mostly use methods such as Bitcoin, Western Union, MoneyGram and other untraceable methods which make refunds impossible.
  2. File a formal police complaint with the Cybercrime department.
  3. Leave a negative review on review portals such as Scamadviser and TrustPilot
  4. Give a low rating to the website on Web of Trust. You can also install their extension for the same.
  5. If the company has a listing on Google My Business or Google Maps, file a complaint using the Business Redressal Complaint Form. Also, leave a negative review explaining what kind of experience you had.
