Is Cheapgamecenter Fake or Real?
Likely Fake
Why Is Cheapgamecenter Fake?
Cheapgamecenter is a website that claims to be selling electronics such as game consoles, TVs and more. The website is ugly and looks like it has been hastily-made.
The surprising part about this website is that they claim to be selling the Sony PlayStation 5 at market price, at a time when it is out-of-stock pretty much everywhere and being sold at high markups by scalpers. This is a strong sign that Cheapgamecenter might be a scam.
A domain name lookup of the website shows that it was registered on 5th October 2020. The registrant’s details such as name, location and contact details have been hidden using a paid service. Therefore, it is a relatively new website that is being operated anonymously.
The website does not have any information about the company running it. Important pages such as About Us, Terms & Condtions and Privacy Policy are missing. Further, the content on the Shipping Policy page has been directly copied from BestBuy’s website.
There are some reviews given on the website itself, but these are clearly fake as they have been copied from sites such as Costco. The same reviews can be found on at least 4 other websites. These sites are listed at the end of the article.
The single most suspicious thing about Cheapgamecenter is the choice of payment methods. Customers can only pay directly using Bitcoin or Zelle, both of which are untraceable and non-refundable methods. For a normal bank account payment, you have to contact them separately after placing the order. This is extremely strange and brings us to the next point about contact methods.
Cheapgamecenter does not even have a Contact Us page. However, a phone number and email ID have been provided in the header and footer of the site. The email ID was found to be fake when tested.
The phone number is a virtual number that can be operated from anywhere in the world. Therefore, there is a high chance that Cheapgamecenter is operated by overseas scammers.
The only reviews that I could find are from TrustPilot users warning that the site looks like a scam. They have stated that Cheapgamecenter is running Google ads. There is also a mention of the Terms & Conditions of the page being fake, but the page seems to have been removed completely by the time I checked.
There is an extremely high chance that Cheapgamecenter might be a scam. The website is of low-quality and claims to have the Sony PS5 in stock. Not only is this unlikely, but they are also offering it at the market cost at a time when scalpers are selling it at inflated prices. This is a huge red flag.
The website does not have essential pages such as About Us, Contact Us, Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy. Therefore, it does not look like Cheapgamecenter is a professional operation. The domain name was registered only in October 2020 and the site is being run anonymously.
The only contact methods being offered on the website are Bitcoin and Zelle. Both of these are risky as there are no refunds for payments made using either method.
The only contact details provided are a fake email ID and a virtual phone number that can be operated from anywhere. Therefore, Cheapgamecenter is not actually an American company as it tries to portray.
It is advisable to avoid shopping on Cheapgamecenter, as there are too many red flags suggesting that it is a scam.
