Mikilinen is an online store which claims to sell women’s clothing items such as dresses, jumpsuits, sandals and more. However, the products on the website are not original and can be found on several other Chinese websites. Notably, some of these websites have been found to be a part of the OrderPlus scam network.

A domain name lookup of the website shows that it was registered on 8th June 2020. The registrant’s name and location have been hidden for privacy.

The About Us page contains the following text. This text was found to be used by hundreds of other online stores, including some in the Chicyoins scam network.

When I tested the checkout process via PayPal, the account name was written in Chinese. The name translates to Guangzhou Chaoku Network Technology Co., Ltd. which shows that this is a Chinese website.

The Contact page of the website contains an email ID and an address. The company name given along with the address is Matte Ecommerce Co. Ltd. This company is registered in the UK under the name of a Chinese national named Wenhui Yi. The email ID provided was found to be working.

Mikilinen has a single social media profile which is its Facebook page. The page has been created around the same time as the website and was found to be running ads. No information was available about the location of the page owner.

There are several signs that Mikilinen might be a scam. The content of the website is not original. The same text and images are also being used by hundreds of other stores, some of which have been found to be part of Chinese scam networks.

The only way to contact the company is by email. The website belongs to a registered company, but it is possible that it is a shell company as it is registered in the name of a Chinese national. The PayPal account belongs to a Chinese company named Guangzhou Chaoku Network Technology Co., Ltd.

How to Get Your Money Back from a Scam

Remember: If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.

If you have been the victim of an ecommerce scam, you can take the following steps:

  1. Lodge a complaint at the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal
  2. File a complaint with the payment portal and ask whether the payment can be reversed.
  3. File a complaint with the Consumer Complaints Forum
  4. Leave a negative review on review portals such as Scamadviser, TrustPilot, OnlineThreatAlerts and SiteJabber
  5. Report the website to Google using the Suspicious Site Reporter extension for Chrome
  6. Give a low rating to the website on Web of Trust. You can also install their extension for the same.
