Why Is Maddemall Fake?

Maddemall is a website that claims to be selling various electric and electronic items such as snow shovels, woodcutters, garden tools, RC cars and more. The website is very strange as the URL is maddemall.com, but this name is not mentioned anywhere. Instead, the name is given as WonderfuHi-com in several places across the website.

As soon as you enter the website, a ‘Flash Sale’ banner pops up saying it is the last day of the promotion. This is obviously fake as the banner has a Christmas theme in mid-January. I also visited the website on two different days and saw the same banner.

A domain name lookup of the website shows that it was registered on 20th October 2020. The registrant’s details such as name, location and contact information have been hidden for privacy. Therefore, the website is being operated anonymously.

There is a long list of things that is wrong with Maddemall. First of all, the main banner on the home page says that the website ships ‘from US to Worldwide’. However, the website is hosted on Shoplazza, which is the Chinese counterpart of Shopify. Therefore, it seems that the website is operated from China and not the USA.

The products on the website also seem to be fake. The images used are of products by actual brands. However, the listings don’t mention brand names anywhere. The pricing is also extremely suspicious and it seems that Maddemall is exploiting a feature of Shoplazza to mislead consumers. The product pages have a ‘Style’ drop down where the scam unfolds.

At first, you will see the copied image of a branded product with some other product overlaid in the corner. The price of this product will be extremely low.

If you choose the other ‘style’ available, the image will change to only show the branded product and the price will shoot up ridiculously. The price of this second ‘style’ will be much more than the actual price of the branded product.

Maddemall’s website seems to be cloned from a now-defunct site called Fashion456. The policy pages of Maddemall make multiple references to Fashion456 instead of Maddemall or WonderfuHi-com.

The Contact Us page of Maddemall also mentions an email ID origination from the domain name Fashion456. This email ID was found to be fake when tested. No other contact method such as a phone number or address has been provided.

Maddemall does not have any social media presence either. The social media icons given in the website footer are dummies as they lead nowhere.

There are no reviews available for Maddemall. However, I found a few reviews for Fashion456 that all say it is a scam. Customers have complained that they received inferior products or nothing at all. The products mentioned are also the same as those being sold on Maddemall, which leads me to believe that Maddemall is simply a clone of Fashion456.

It is quite obvious that Maddemall is a scam. The name Maddemall itself is not mentioned anywhere on the website. The home page displays the website name as WoderfuHi-com while the policy pages give the name as Fashion456.

The ‘Flash Sale’ pop-up exists only to create a false sense of urgency. It has a Christmas-themed design in mid-January and always says that it is the ‘last day of promotions’. Maddemall tries to portray itself as a US-based website by stating that they deliver ‘from US to Worldwide’. However, the website has been created using Shoplazza, which is a Chinese platform similar to Shopify. Therefore, it is very likely that Maddemall is actually a Chinese website.

The product listings on Maddemall are extremely deceptive. They have stolen images of products by real brands with cheap products overlaid in the corner. Customers may think that they are ordering that product that is prominently featured in the image, only to receive an inferior product that is shown in the corner of the same image. The ‘real’ product is hidden as a second ‘Style’ in the drop-down menu on the page. The prices of the ‘real’ products are extremely inflated.

The only contact information provided by Maddemall is a fake email ID originating from the domain Fashion456. No phone number or email address has been given. Maddemall does not have any social media pages either as the links given in the website footer are dummies.

There are no reviews available for Maddemall. However, reviews of Fashion456 suggest that Maddemall is simply a clone of Fashion456, which itself is a scam. Customers have complained that they received worthless products or that their orders were never delivered.

It is advisable to avoid shopping on Maddemall, as it is clearly a scam operated by the same scammers behind Fashion456.
