Why is Howsells Fake?

YouTube video

Howsells is a website that claims to be an online Costco outlet selling furniture and more at low prices. There is no indication that it has any real relation to Costco. Additionally, the prices on Howsells are simply too good to be true which is often the most obvious sign of a scam. The site is similar to the fake Lowe’s website that I have previously written about but of even lower quality.

A domain name lookup of the website shows that it was registered on 14th January 2022 in China. The registrant’s other details such as name and contact information have not been provided. Therefore, it is a new website that is being operated anonymously from a high-risk country.

The below nonsensical reason is given for the low prices:

Why are our product prices so Cheap
Due to the unsalable sales of many products, capital is tight, and now it is necessary to sell them quickly to withdraw funds-each product is limited in quantity and will last until sold out.

I found that the same text is being used on a number of other websites, many of which are identical to Howsells. Upon further investigation, I found that there are at least 27 other websites that appear to be related to Howsells and may all be scams. The list of sites is given at the end of the article.

The website is so poorly made that it does not even contain important pages such as About Us, Contact Us, Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy. This clearly shows that Howsells is not a genuine website.

missing pages

While testing the checkout process, I found that Howsells accepts payments through a Chinese PayPal account. The account is named ‘成都炎索轩贸易有限公司’ which translates to ‘Chengdu Yansuoxuan Trading Co., Ltd.’. Therefore, it is evident that Howsells is not associated with Costco in any manner.

There are social media buttons given on Howsells’ website, however, they are useless as they lead nowhere. I could not find any social media pages for Howsell.

As Howsells does not even have a Contact Us page, there is no way to contact them for support.

I could not find any customer reviews for Howsells, which is not surprising considering that it is a brand new website. If you want to share your review of this site, you can do so in the comments below or on my social media pages.

Conclusion

It seems quite obvious that Howsells and the 27 seemingly related sites may be scams run from China. The prices are simply too good to be true which is often the most obvious indication of a scam.

Howsells was registered in January 2022 in China. However, the website falsely claims to be associated with Costco even though there is absolutely no relation between the two. There are several websites identical to Howsells and at least 27 other websites are related to Howsells directly or indirectly. This suggests that the site may be just one among a large network of fake websites created with the intent of scamming shoppers.

The domain registration information and PayPal account being used both indicate that Howsells is actually operated from China. There are no contact details given on the website and no reviews could be found either.

It is advisable to avoid shopping on Howsells or any of the 27 similar sites, as they seem to be scams run by Chinese criminals. If you feel that you have been defrauded by any of these sites, you can report the seller to PayPal.
