Why Is Earthlycosy Fake?

Earthlycosy is a website that is advertising products such as cookbooks and cooking utensils on Facebook.

The website looks suspicious from the get-go as the products they are selling can only be found on questionable Chinese stores and Wish. This also the first hint that Earthylcosy might be a Chinese website.

A domain name lookup of the website shows that it was registered on 15th October 2020. The registrant’s details such as name, location and contact details have been hidden for privacy. Therefore, it is a new website that is being operated anonymously, possibly from China which is a high-risk country.

As it is clear that the website never existed before October 2020, there are multiple instances where a fake website age can be found. On the About Us page, it is stated that ‘Eartly Cosy was founded in 2017’ while on the Terms of Purchase page, it is stated that the page was updated in July 2018.

The About Us page contains the following text:

Eartly Cosy was founded in 2017. Its origin was a thorough rationalization of the manufacturing process with an eye to creating simple, low-cost, good quality products.

Eartly Cosy’s products, born from an extremely rational manufacturing process, are succinct, but they are not in the minimalist style. Through our carefully selected products, we aim to provide convenience and comfort for you and your loved ones. We know because we care.

First of all, the company’s name has been misspelt multiple times, which shows that Earthlycosy is not a genuine brand run by professionals. Secondly, this content has been copied from the website of a brand called MUJI.

The same text has been used on at least 30 other websites, all of which may be scams. The list is given at the end of the article.

An IP addresses analysis of these sites shows that 24 out of 29 (86.2%) websites have shared IP addresses. Earthlycosy itself shares an IP address with 10 other websites. This indicates that Earthylcosy is part of an organized network of online stores operated by the same owners.

There is another hint that Earthlycosy is actually a Chinese website on the Terms of Use page. The ‘Dispute Resolution’ section states:

the law of this arbitration clause shall be the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administration Region of the People’s Republic of China (“Hong Kong”)

Though no social media links are given on the website, I found that Earthlycosy is operating at least 8 different Facebook pages under the names ‘Earthlycosy’ and ‘Earthly Cosy’.

All of these have been used for advertising at some point. No genuine brand will create 8 pages on the same platform. Therefore, there is little doubt that Earthlycosy is involved in something very fishy.

The newest page was created in March 2021 and is currently being used to run ads on Facebook and Instagram.

The page information confirms that Earthlycosy is indeed a Chinese website, as a majority of the page admins are shown to be from Hong Kong and the Philippines. These pages have also all been created after October 2020, strengthening my belief that the site did not exist earlier than that.

The Contact Us page only contains an email ID ‘support@earthlycosy.com’, which was found to be working when tested. The About Us page on the website as well as the Facebook pages also mention the address of a location in Arkansas, USA. The address is clearly fake as it is of an empty plot.

There are several reviews for Earthlycosy available on Scamadviser and TrustPilot. All the reviews are negative and the customers have stated that they never received their orders even months after placing them. They also did not receive any tracking information or replies to inquiries sent by email and on Facebook.

Conclusion

It is quite obvious that Earthlycosy and the related websites may all be scams. The products available on Earthlycosy can only be found on dubious Chinese sites and Wish.

The domain registration data shows that the website was created in October 2020. However, it is falsely stated on the website that the company has been operating since 2017 and 2018.

None of the content on the website is original. The text has been copied from the website of a brand called MUJI and the same content is used on 30 other websites, all of which seem to be scams.

24 of these sites have shared IP address, with Earthlycosy sharing an IP address with 11 other sites. What this means is that Earthlycosy is part of an organized network of Chinese stores apparently created for the sole purpose of defrauding customers.

Earthlycosy has at least 8 different Facebook pages, all of which have been used at some point for advertising on Facebook and Instagram. The page information shows that they are operated from Hong Kong and the Philippines.

Even though it is evident that Earthlycosy is a Chinese website, a USA address is given on the website and the Facebook pages. This is a transparent case of deception and the address is of an empty plot.

Customers have stated in reviews that they never received their orders and that Earthlycosy’s customer service is non-existent.

It is advisable to avoid shopping on Earthlycosy or any of the related 30 websites as they all seem to be scams.
