Why is Agskyscrape Fake?

Agskyscrape is a website that claims to be selling Waldorf Dolls at low prices. A name like ‘Agskyscrape‘ – which is a random jumble of letters – often signals that the store may be a scam from China.

Agskyscrape is quite obviously a scam as the product images are plagiarized. I have previously written about the Waldorf Dolls Scam being operated by Chinese scammers. The images on Agskyscrape have been stolen from Waldorf Dolls creator Ildiko, who sells the hand-made dolls on her website Ildila (previously Waldorf Doll Shop).

While the actual dolls cost hundreds of dollars, Agskyscrape is supposedly offering the same for $34.99. This scam has been going on for years and hundreds of customers have reported receiving low-quality dolls from China that are nothing like the pictures.

The website seems to be created using a Chinese e-commerce platform called Wshopon, which again suggests that Agskyscrape is a Chinese website. However, the Terms and Conditions page bizarrely states that the website operates as per UK laws.

The Terms & Conditions Page contains the below details of Landbase Trading Co. Ltd. It should be noted that the details are formatted as an image, presumably to prevent other sites containing the same information from being detected by search engines.

While the company address gives the impression that Agskyscrape is a UK-based business, when I checked the UK Companies House register I found that Landbase Trading Co. has a Chinese owner. Therefore, Landbase Trading Co. Ltd. may be a shell company created to launder money from the UK to China.

It is also noteworthy that the registered address does not match the one on the website, hinting that it is likely to be a virtual address. I have previously found 865 dubious websites related to Landbase Trading Co. while researching sites called Taineideocly and Discplinee.

A domain name lookup of the website shows that it was registered on 21st April 2022 through HiChina. The registrant’s details such as name, location and contact information have not been provided. Therefore, Agskyscrape is a new website that is being operated anonymously from a high-risk country.

The About Us page of Agskyscrape contains the following text:

At agskyscrape.com, we like to provide great products for fans. No matter what product, it can provide convenience for you, even become your favorite product, and become an indispensable thing in your life.

Company Name: Shenyang yujunbao Shoes Co., Ltd

Firstly, the page gives the company name as ‘Shenyang yujunbao Shoes Co., Ltd’ which sounds Chinese and is clearly not Landbase Trading Co.

Upon analyzing the website’s content, I found that the same text is being used on at least 294 other websites, all of which may be scams. Qti.Ai’s Scami uncovered 114 additional sites using this text too, adding up to a total of 408 websites which are likely to be scams. The full list of sites is given at the end of the article.

While testing the checkout process, I found that the PayPal account associated with the website has the generic name ‘Shop’. This hints that the same account may be being used for accepting payment on multiple scam sites.

There are no links to social media pages on Agskyscrape’s website. However, I found that at least six Facebook pages have been created for it, two of which are being used for running advertisements on Facebook and Instagram. There is also a third ad account which has been banned already.

The Facebook page details are extremely sketchy as the page is shown to be managed from a number of fake locations such as Australia, USA, India and more. This makes no sense as Agskyscrape claims to be a UK-based business and therefore the locations seem to be a deliberate deception.

There are no real contact details provided anywhere on the website. Only an email ID ‘support@agskyscrape.com’ has been given along with a random Chinese address.

Conclusion

It seems apparent that Agskyscrape and the 408 related sites may all be scams from China. The website is being operated anonymously from China since April 2022 and the images of products have been stolen from genuine artists such as Ildila (Waldorf Doll Shop). The website owners appear to be hiding behind a possible shell company named Landbase Trading Co. registered in the UK and owned by a Chinese national.

The entire website’s content has been copied and the same text can be found on at least 408 other websites, all of which are likely to be scams. Agskyscrape tries to create the false impression that it is a UK-based business even though multiple signs indicate that it is operated from China. The only contact detail provided is an email ID.

Agskyscrape has six Facebook pages and none of them are linked on the website. The page details are alarming as all the information appears to be fake and contradicts the information on the website. For example, the Facebooka pages are supposedly managed from 14 different countries and none of them is the UK. Shockingly, the pages are being allowed to run advertisements on Facebook and Instagram.

It is advisable to avoid shopping on Agskyscrape or any of the 408 related websites as there are high chances that you will not receive what you ordered or might receive low-quality copies at best.

If you think that you have been scammed by any of these sites, you can contact PayPal for a full refund. Don’t accept a partial refund citing that the product is not as described and refuse to ship the items back to China as the merchant claims to be located in the UK.
